PRACTICAL MISSIONS
Each course will be worth 4 college credits, and will cost $260.00 per class.
One course offered per month beginning in September (excluding December).
Classes will be limited to 10 students.
Forestry - Students will learn the basics of picking good trees, safety in cutting the tree, cutting methods, conservation, and equipment maintenance. Equipment provided by IFBC: hardhat, chaps, and chainsaw
Equipment provided by student: lightweight leather gloves and steel-toed shoes
Saw Milling - Students will learn sawyer skill, maintenance techniques, and how to sharpen and set bands. Wood will be cut for use in a later class on construction shelters.
Construction - Students will learn to frame, set windows, and construct a one-room portable shelter. The class will use wood products created in the earlier Sawmill module.
Basic Auto Mechanics - Students will learn basic maintenance skills such as changing the oil, replacing the brakes, changing the tires, and other pertinent information needed to maintain a vehicle.
Excavating & Road Grading - Students will learn how to install a septic system, grade a road, dig trenches, and install tiling for irrigation.
