COMPUTER SCIENCES


*COM 101- COMPUTER SCIENCE

A class in modern computers where the student will gain a familiarity with both PC and Mac computers. Learning basic desktop publishing. Extra fees may apply.

(One Semester - 2 credit hours)


COM 102- COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

Comfortably learn the applications and keystrokes to Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Power Point, Windows, Bible Software and other programs that will assist you in both the workplace and at home. Training will also include Internet research, practical hardware skills and use of basic computer terminology. Upon completion of this class, students will have the necessary skills to compete in today’s computer literate society. Extra fees may apply.

COM 201- INTERNET APPLICATIONS

Learn how to surf the net for research projects and general internet applications. Extra fees may apply.

(One Semester - 1 credit hour)


COM 301- DESKTOP PUBLISHING

A comprehensive application of desktop publishing where the student will take assignments from the design phase through the complete printing process. Students will have a working knowledge of Adobe and Microsoft desktop publishing programs. Extra fees may apply.

(Two Semesters - 3 credit hours each)


FILM PRODUCTION


FLM 101 BASIC FILM PRODUCTION

Learn the fundamentals of basic film and video production. Students will join in on productions already in progress and have an opportunity to produce their own films. Students will learn the art of storyboarding, developing and shooting a script, basic lighting and sound production.  There is regular class time and various added lab time shooting at various times and locations.

GRAPHIC ARTS


GRPH 201, 202 - DESKTOP PUBLISHING I & II

The student of these courses will gain a basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Pagemaker on both Macintosh and PC platforms. These courses focus more on the technical operation of the programs rather than the design element, although some design training will be taught. TBA


GRPH 303 - PRE-PRESS

This course will explain the process of transferring a design from the computer to a plate for printing purposes. The design student will gain knowledge on how to produce professional designs that are also conducive to offset printing. TBA


GRPH 401 - BASIC PRESS OPERATION

This course will give the student a basic understanding of the operation of an offset printing press. The student will receive hands-on training in our college print shop. TBA


GRPH 402 - BASIC PRESS MAINTENANCE

This course will give the student a basic understanding of the mechanical workings of an offset printing-press. The student will receive hands-on training in our college print shop. TBA


LANGUAGES


LAN 105 - BEGINNING LATIN

Part of the Trivium in classical education, learning Latin will help the student in all areas of language. Study will also focus on the importance of Latin during Biblical times and those during the growth of the New Testament.

(One Semester - 1 credit hour)


LAN 201- ELEMENTARY GREEK

Introductory course in Koine Greek, emphasizing forms and vocabulary. Aims to provide a foundation for further study of Greek, as well as a brief exposure to the Greek Text the Textus Receptus.

(Two Semesters - 2 credit hours each)


LAN 301- INTERMEDIATE GREEK

Continued study of Koine Greek with emphasis on grammar and vocabulary. Translation of selected passages from the new Testament. Prerequisite: LAN 201

LAN 202- ELEMENTARY HEBREW

This course is designed to give the beginning Hebrew student a firm and confident grasp of the essentials of biblical Hebrew and to introduce the beginning student to the basic linguistic tools of Old Testament research. The student will learn the Hebrew alphabet numbers and some basic grammatical skills.

(Two Semesters - 2 credit hours each)


LAN 302- INTERMEDIATE HEBREW

This course is designed to engage the beginning Hebrew student and a consideration of Hebrew grammar, syntax, and vocabulary at a more advanced level. Special attention is given to accurate identification of grammatical forms and accurate and meaningful translation using the basic tools of Old Testament research. Prerequisite: LAN 202. (Two Semesters - 2 credit hours each)


LAN 203- BEGINNING AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE

An introduction to American Sign Language; nonverbal techniques, basic vocabulary, grammar principles, and conversational skills. American Sign Language satisfies foreign language requirements.

(Two Semesters - 2 credit hours each)


LAN 303- CONVERSATIONAL AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE

This study of conversational American Sign Language will develop skills in conversing in the “idiom” of the deaf adult by focusing on experiential activities. It offers a unique approach to using ASL and English and a bilingual setting by providing insides into the culture and everyday life of deaf people. Prerequisite: LAN 203

LAN 204- BEGINNING SPANISH

An introductory course in the essentials of Spanish grammar and conversation. Both spoken and written Spanish will be study with the goal of developing good communication skills.

LAN 304- CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH

This study of conversational Spanish will develop skills in conversing in everyday situations. Prerequisite: Beginning Spanish or High School Spanish.

MISSIONS STUDIES


Missions studies prepares the student for the missions field. Since all Christians are called to share the Gospel, these classes are available and recommended for all.


MIS 101- LIVES OF THE MISSIONARIES

Meet missionaries that are home on leave and deputation. Learn about their everyday lives.

(One Semester - 2 credit hours)


*MIS 105- PERSONAL EVANGELISM

Study of the philosophy, principles, and methodology of personal evangelism. The course includes developing a personal witnessing methodology, understanding the current issues in evangelism, and learning to answer the difficult questions often asked in witnessing experiences.

(Two Semesters - 3 credit hours each)


MIS 250- YOUTH MINISTRY

A look at effective youth ministry in the church, and the expectations and priorities of a youth worker. It is good for Sunday School teachers, youth workers, and anyone interested in youth ministry.

(One Semester - 2 credit hours)


MIS 301- PRINTING MINISTRIES

Students will be directly involved in maintaining and creating IFBC and Operation Teens printing publications. Some of these publications are the Teen Gram, the alumni newsletter Sunithleo, monthly devotionals, tracts, church bulletins, and other printed materials. Students will learn all the aspects of desktop publishing design, layout, printing, and binding in our fully operational printing facility. Students will be able to take an idea and follow it all the way through to the printed book form. Upon completion of this class, the student will have the necessary skills and worldwide contacts to sustain any printing ministry.

(Two Semesters - 3 credit hours each)


MIS 315- FORESTRY

Hands on instruction and onsite training in planting, foresting, identifying, harvesting and landscaping wooded areas. Principle applications will be discussed as to clearing a strip for a runway, different uses for different types of lumber, tree conservation and other missions based projects.

(Two Semesters - 3 credit hours each)


MIS 325- HOUSEHOLD MAINTENANCE

Learn practical applications and techniques on how to fix and maintain household grievances. Basic plumbing, carpentry, cleaning, auto, and other maintenance duties will be discussed. Students will learn to change faucet washers, door knobs, toilets, to tires on your car and all things in-between. Students will also learn the ministries involved with helping those in the church with these simple skills.

MIS 335- CONSTRUCTION & EXCAVATION

Learn basic construction skills with hands on experience. Students will go through the different phases of construction from the planning, purchasing of materials, to the final construction.

THEOLOGY


*THE 101- PRAYER LIFE

This course looks into the prayers of the Bible and the prayers of Christians as examples of how to pray. The main emphases is the biblical teaching on the characteristics of prayer, and that the student develop a closeness to God through prayer.

(Two Semesters - 2 credit hours each)


THE 201- THE CULTS AND THE OCCULT

A survey of several of the leading cults of today. How to identify, label, and rebut cultish and pagan theology from the doctrines of Jehovah’s Witness, Mormons, Masonry, Roman Catholicism, Christian Science, New Age Movement, and pagan Occult religions.

(Two Semesters - 2 credit hours each)


THE 301- HOMILETICS

A course designed to develop the students’ philosophies of preaching. Emphasis is placed on the preparation of expository sermons and practice in their delivery. Study of sermon structure development and effective delivery. Designed to give the student practice in outlining, writing, delivering, and evaluating sermons for different types of preaching situations.

(One Semester - 2 credit hours)


THE 401- PASTORAL TRADITIONS

Learn traditions and methods of pastoral directed duties such as weddings, funerals, baptisms, communion ceremonies, hospital visits and other special occasions. A look at the importance and values of a properly run function.

(One Semester - 1 credit hour)


ELECTIVES


ELE 101- GOURMET COOKING

Learn the basics and the not-so-basics to cooking principles. Learn knife skills and the use of the different styles of knives. Guest chefs from area restaurants will teach fine culinary tricks of the trade to help enhance your gourmet cooking at home. Extra fees will be required for food prep.

(One Semester - 1 credit hour


INDEPENDENT STUDY

Research of a particular problem or area of practical theology not covered by our regular courses done in cooperation with a professor.

(Two Semester Thesis - 4 credits total)


APPLIED MINISTRIES

Credit will be given for hands on experience if a report on the activities is turned in and deemed an acceptable exchange for credit.

(Maximum 8 credits - some exceptions)

COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM


Courses numbered below 299 are considered lower-level courses, primarily for Freshman and Sophomores. Courses numbered 300 and above are considered upper-level courses.


Courses and designated with hyphenated numbers (e.g., 111-112) extend through the year and successful completion of the first semester is a prerequisite to enrollment in the second semester.

Courses that extend through the year, but carry credit for either semester, have the course numbers separated by a comma (e.g., 101,102).


IFBC reserves the right to withdraw any course for which there is not sufficient demand and to adjust academic offerings without notice.
